What does a Counselor at a Community Residence for Youth do?
A Counselor at a Community Residence for youth will build experience and knowledge about how trauma and mental illness impact the daily lives of youth and families in our community. Counselors work together to help supervise youth and create a therapeutic, trauma-informed, strength-based environment. By creating a therapeutic and safe environment, Counselors help youth and families build the skills necessary to reintegrate back into their family home. Such skills include but are not limited to; emotion regulation, independent living skills, social skills, and recreational activities. Working as a counselor not only helps enrich the lives of others but will be a great experience for those wanting to make the mental health field their career.
