Pathways, Inc. Nichols Award Recognizes Outstanding Care of Foster Youth

On May 8, 2018, at the annual Resource Parent Appreciation Dinner the Pathways, Inc. Therapeutic Foster Care Program awarded The Nichols Award, also known as the Resource Parent of the Year Award, to Phyllis McGee-Fields and her mother, Verlene McGee of Elmira, NY. The Nichols Award honors a Resource Parent/Family for going above and beyond in working with children and families.

Pathways, Inc. Nichols Award Recognizes Outstanding Care of Foster Youth

May 18, 2018—On May 8, 2018, at the annual Resource Parent Appreciation Dinner the Pathways, Inc. Therapeutic Foster Care Program awarded The Nichols Award, also known as the Resource Parent of the Year Award, to Phyllis McGee-Fields and her mother, Verlene McGee of Elmira, NY. The Nichols Award honors a Resource Parent/Family for going above and beyond in working with children and families. 

Phyllis McGee-Fields and Verlene McGee have been Resource Parents for Pathways, Inc. for six years. Phyllis McGee-Fields and Verlene McGee are known for their educational advocacy and extraordinary care for children with serious emotional disturbances. Phyllis McGee-Fields has years of dedicated service to others in the community. Verlene McGee was a long-time literacy educator in Elmira, NY and is the author of three books, one of which is a guide to parenting, Parenting Pearls: Gems for the Puzzled Parent, and two children’s books, Don’t Go Fishing in the Dishpan and The Oatmeal Looks Like Killer Food. 

The Pathways, Inc. Therapeutic Foster Care Program is a community-based and family-centered program serving foster youth who have serious emotional, social, and behavioral issues or developmental disabilities in need of a therapeutic out-of-home placement. Resource Parents (certified foster parents) trained in mental health and developmental topics provide foster care to youths. Therapeutic Foster Care staff provide services to youths, siblings, and families in order to achieve permanency goals.
