A Teacher works with an infant at the Erwin Child & Family Center

How long have you worked at the Erwin Child & Family Center (ECFC) and what is your current role?
I have worked at ECFC for over six years. I am the Lead Teacher in an infant room and also a Child Development Specialist for the infant/older infant rooms.

What do you like most about your job?
I love taking care of the babies and helping them develop new skills and meet milestones. Seeing them grow from when they are too young to roll over to being able to walk and greet me by name is really special. I get very attached to all the babies, so when they move on to the older rooms, I enjoy being able to still see them every day. Another thing I love is the trusting relationships I form with the parents so they feel comfortable leaving their children in our care.

What kinds of resources/benefits have you taken advantage of while employed at Pathways, Inc.?
I use the health, vision, and dental benefits from Pathways. I also contribute to a 401K. I have enjoyed things like a Washington, D.C. bus trip that Pathways organized for the staff. They also provide a program through NexGenEAP that has everything from mental health services to discounts on theme park tickets.

How have you grown professionally while working at ECFC?
Since being hired as a lead teacher, I have been given many opportunities for professional growth. We are constantly being offered a variety of trainings and conferences that we do not have to pay for ourselves. I was able to become certified in medication administration. This year, I was given the position of Child Development Specialist where I am able to coach fellow teachers in our infant and older rooms. The teachers here have a wide variety of backgrounds, so even simple meetings or observing in other classrooms provide me with a lot of opportunities for both personal and professional growth.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of working at Pathways, Inc.?
Working for Pathways allows me to be a part of something even bigger than working at the Erwin Child & Family Center. They are able to provide training, events, benefits, and volunteer opportunities that a different center would not be able to provide.

I have been working at the Erwin Child & Family Center for the past four years and this is my fifth year. I joined as a support teacher for the older toddlers and continue to work with children of the same age group by providing a fun and interactive environment for children to play and grow with my co-teachers.

What do you like most about your job?
I enjoy my work. I appreciate help from my mentor teachers in individualizing care, embracing families’ cultural diversity, fostering relationships with families, and appropriately guiding children’s behaviors. It is an opportunity to provide a positive learning environment for children.

What kinds of resources/benefits have you taken advantage of while employed at Pathways, Inc.?
Pathways has given me a fabulous opportunity to work with families in the community as an esteemed organization. I have had the privilege of attending numerous professional development training programs online, live, and interactive which has enabled me to place myself in a better position to perform effectively. I also benefit by using the medical benefits provided by Pathways.

How have you grown professionally while working at ECFC?
Pathways and ECFC have helped in widening my horizon in the field of childcare in a daycare setting. I have learned to be organized, keep an open mind, have proactive organizational skills, set short/long-term goals, and work collaboratively. This helps assists me in making the vision and mission of Pathways possible.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of working at Pathways, Inc.?
The most rewarding aspect is a friendly and highly professional work setting. It is indeed a pleasure to work in a conducive environment where every individual is treated with respect and understanding. Pathways embraces every member of the faculty into its kind arms as one large family.
