Nature of Work:
The Family Counselor/Kinship Specialist is the key staff support person for the Resource Parents, Youth and Parents/Guardians. All case work services to these individuals are centralized and coordinated through this position in collaboration with the local district of social services. This position provides family counseling and support to all program youth’s Parents/Guardians, Permanency Resources, and/or Prospective Adoptive Resources. This position also coordinates rehabilitative services and youth and family advocacy in order to assist the youth/family in meeting their permanency goal. In addition, the individual that holds this position will engage and notify kinship resources when a child is removed from the home as set forth by New York State statute and regulation.
Minimum Qualifications
- A Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Special Education or related human service field is preferred.
- A minimum of one year experience providing services to children with serious emotional disturbances and their families is required.
- Professional licensure is preferred.
- A Bachelor’s degree is the minimum requirement. Experience may substitute for field of study but not for minimum degree requirement.
